Recognition of a Job Well Done

Maersk Line, Limited's commitment to supporting small and disadvantaged business firms was demonstrated recently with the successful completion of shipboard installations onboard USNS RED CLOUD, achieved in partnership with East Coast Repair and Fabrication, Inc. of Norfolk, VA.  The installations were completed a week ahead of schedule, earning the company a 5% bonus payment.  The MLL contracting department selected the firm to make the necessary shipboard modifications in support of a research and development project to test the Mobile Landing Platform (MLP) concept.  East Coast Repair and Fabrication has been certified as a Small Disadvantaged Business by the small Business Administration’s 8(a) program.  The SBA’s 8(a) Business Development Program, named for a section of the Small Business Act, is a business development program created to help small disadvantaged businesses compete in the American economy and access the federal procurement market.  MLL actively seeks small, small disadvantaged, small woman-owned and small veteran-owned companies to subcontract for the goods and services needed to support its fleet of vessels.

A pre-award survey conducted by the MLL contracting department concluded that the company, which was founded in 1994 and presently employs more than 100 staff, possessed the resources and capabilities needed to complete the project.  The contract was awarded and overseen by MLL Contracts Manager Don Everton and Bob Mackey served as the onsite port engineer.
